Course Aims
This course aims to:
- Give students an in-depth knowledge of packaging technology a carried out in the alcoholic beverage industries.
- Maturation of green beer, and the processing required to prepare beer for packaging and dispense.
- The processing of whisky from casks in the bonded warehouse to packaged product.
- Provide students with detailed knowledge of packaging equipment and processes for the industry, the layouts of typical packaging lines, their key design parameters and their benefits
- Enable students to critically assess the packaging materials available and their suitability for particular duties on the basis of function, quality, cost, and marketing.
- Provide students with the information so that they understand the role of packaging material in the environment and in society, and the basics of the UK Government (and EU legislation) that encompasses these activities
- Give an understanding of NPD and the intertwined relationship between packaging and the marketing/advertising image of a product.
- Provide visits to industrial premises in order to “bring alive” the theory and concepts presented.
